About Pertazzer Co.

Pertazzer Co. is a production company for contemporary theatrical dance works based in New York City.

Founded in 2024 by choreographer Julia Patella, Pertazzer Co. is dedicated to challenging norms for dance in theatre by presenting dance as theatre.

Director Julia Patella

Choreography by Julia Patella is recognizable by its rigorous musicality, dramaturgical foundation, and characters with vibrant personalities. She spins together influences from tap, jazz, hip-hop, ballet, percussion, and physical theatre to form a dance performance discipline she dubs “contemporary-theatrical.”

Patella’s choreography spans evening length dance works (Footfall, The Simon Suites, Mina e Raffaella), individual pieces (“The Players”, “Beach Town Constituency”, “Muse”), musicals (Daniella Sapone’s Alive: The Mary Shelley Musical, Sunday in the Park With George, Damn Yankees), plays (Yale Dramatic Association’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Elif Collective’s Waiting for Godot and This is Our Youth), film (Alex Deland’s “On the Sidewalk at Night”), and experimental/interdisciplinary performance (New York Circus Project’s Hamlet).

Julia holds a BA in Dance and Sociology from Barnard College of Columbia University where she studied tap under Dormeshia. She is an adjunct faculty choreographer in the Peddie School department of theatre and serves proudly on the alumni boards for both Flight Path Dance Project (tuition-free repertory concert dance training) and First Stages (artistic development for new musical theatre). She teaches open classes in New York City at Open Jar Studios, Gibney and Peridance.
